Thirty years ago today, Rankin Biomedical was founded with a mission to make high-quality histology equipment and supplies more accessible to laboratories across the country. What began as a small operation in Robert Rankin's garage with the help of his 12-year-old son, Brent Rankin, has grown into a trusted name in pathology, serving thousands of labs nationwide with a reputation for reliability.
In the early 1990's, Robert Rankin was working in the hospital laboratory, and saw a need to supply more affordable equipment for laboratories. At the time, Brent Rankin (current President of Rankin Biomedical), Robert's 12-year-old son, found hist passion for biomedical engineering. Brent has been laser-focused on laboratory equipment systems since the age of 12, and today oversees Rankin's production, engineering, and service business units.
Over the years, we've expanded our offerings to include new instruments, consumables, and repair parts—all while maintaining our commitment to supporting the people who make pathology diagnostics possible.
From a 2-car garage to a 35,000 square foot facility and a team of 25 employees (and growing), we’ve come a long way from our early days, but our core values haven’t changed. We believe in honest business, strong relationships, and putting our customers first. It’s this approach that has kept us growing for three decades—and it’s what continues to guide us today.
As we celebrate this milestone, we’re also focused on the future. From introducing new products to investing in better service and support, we remain dedicated to helping labs do what they do best: deliver accurate, timely diagnoses that change lives.
In 2025 and beyond, we’ll keep working to raise the bar in histology—because we know that behind every slide is a patient who matters.
We wouldn’t be here without you—our customers, partners, employees, and friends. Thank you for 30 amazing years. Whether you’ve been with us since the beginning or just joined the Rankin family, we’re grateful for your trust and support.
Here’s to the next 30 years of service, innovation, and making a difference in pathology.
